Liz Durrett

January 20th, 2006 by Knut

Athens, Ga.-based singer-songwriter Liz Durrett is out with a new album, “the mezzanine”, and she has made the title track available for download at her website. Her quiet and dark songs are really beautiful, and should be checked out. The album is released by WARM electronic recordings on january 24, and it was produced by her uncle, Vic Chesnutt, who also worked with Durrett on her previous album, Husk .

and we’ll add another one from her website, - a cover of the Tom Waits song “november”:

New song from Lorna

January 16th, 2006 by Knut

The first post of the year (sorry, - been too lazy to write so far this year ;-) ) …

Lorna, the “indieshoegazecountryambient-ish” band from Nottingham are working on their third album at the moment, and here at the Eardrums, we are really looking forward to the new release. Their previous one, “Static Patterns and Souvenirs”, was an album we liked quite a lot, - and I must say it has grown better and better since I heard it the first time. The band has released one new track for download at their myspace page, - a beautiful ambient piece called “Calella”. A new and very good live version of “The last mosquito fight of summer” is also recently uploaded to myspace. Go and have a listen!

If you like the band, I can recommend their new dvd-release “Contributions”. The DVD (signed by the band if you so wish) will cost you nothing but a small contribution to a local charity of your choice. Make the donation, send in proof (if possible) and the DVD is yours. Contributions features “West of the stars” a short movie made by Lorna shot in the US in summer 2005. Also featured is a full length promotional video for “Swans”, a selection of remastered and high quality live tracks from Lorna’s “Static Patterns” live show in London earlier this year. The only place where you can get the dvd, is from Lorna’s website.
