Reverie Sound Revue: Dream pop +dance = ?

Posted on by Nicolas in Bandprofile | Comments Off

Tweet It’s hard to keep up with all the bands that the various members of the Canadian supergroup Broken Social Scene are in; it goes from the rad post-rock of Do Make Say Think to the folsky solo songs of Amy Millan from Stars, or to the Feist‘s cool cabaret. One of the lesser-known bands in that constellation is Reverie Sound Revue. Broken Social Scene concert photo by Kathryn Yu Lisa Lobsinger joined Broken Social Scene as a stand-in for …

Tweet Irving has made a new video, for my favorite song on their album “blood from the flowers, death in the garden”, – “Jen, nothing matters to me”:

The Curtains, Nedelle and the weirdest video ever made…

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile | Comments Off

Tweet The Curtains – Chris Cohen and two of his “guests”, and I THINK the guests on the photo are Annie Lewandowski and Nedelle Torrisi. I like albums. Sometimes I buy full albums just because I like one song. Most of the time, I get disappointed. This time, I didn’t. What am I talking about? The Curtains! They are one of the weirdest, funniest, bittersweetest and best bands I’ve heard in the last couple of weeks. Or…? Hmm… I’m not …

Tahiti 80 & Friends: it’s supersweet

Posted on by Nicolas in Bandprofile | Comments Off

Tweet I’m still exploring bands that I’ve known for years and that I wish everyone blased from their car while cruising around the city; my favourite of those is certainly Tahiti 80, a French band that’s been going since 1993 (longer than Air!) with un-ironic pop songs that should be on the radio. You might remember their hit single “Heartbeat” from back in the day: Since then they released two more albums, and have departed from their trademark sound on …

Tragadiscos – A Bedroom Label

Posted on by Nicolas 3 Comments

Tweet Us younger indie kids missed it all: Sarah Records, the golden days of the Sub Pop singles club, cheap 7″ records at the store and mail orders. Now, thanks to the futuristic technology of Myspace, I came across people who keep that tradition alive: meet Tragadiscos, a Spanish microlabel run by the mysterious Francisco Javier. That’s a catchy slogan. (from the site) The label likes to share cute indie pop with the world; it’s already released two 7″s packed …

You can watch them here, and we’ll start with “such a simple plan” (all from their latest album): Here’s “Darling Please come home”: …and here’s “April showers”: I can’t resist giving you a couple of mp3′s as well: Math and Physics club – weekends away Math and Physics club – movie ending romance (both from their …

The end of too many good bands…

Posted on by Knut 1 Comment

Tweet PHOTO BY JBICKERS AT STOCK.XCHNG I hate the end of good things. Lately, too many good things have ended. Too many good bands have split up. Too much good music that could have been made, will never be made. That’s the bad side of it. The good side is that some of these great musicians will continue in other band constellations, and we might get even more great bands than we had before… Am I an optimist? The last …

California Snow Story – Happy Scottish Pop

Posted on by Nicolas in Bandprofile | 1 Comment

Tweet It’s a good feeling to fall in love with a small band that you know almost nothing about; no pictures, no glossy interviews in the press, and almost no releases. To me, California Snow Story was a band like that. It was founded in Glasgow, by David Skirving, who also played guitar in early incarnations of Camera Obscura; they released the One Good Summer EP in 2001, and then the band dropped off the radar. A five-song record might …
