Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile, Nordic music | Comments Off

This will probably be my shortest post ever! I just bought Pelle Carlberg‘s new album (Labrador records) and it is more fantastic than I ever imagined! Absolutely recommended!!!I never thought the other tracks could be as fantastic as the single, but most of them are…Pelle Carlberg – Clever girls like clever boys more than clever boys like clever girlsPelle Carlberg – I love you, you imbecile The video for “I love you…” is also fantastic. Watch it here!

The Loyal Trooper – indie pop hymns from London

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile | 1 Comment

Indie pop hymns, right… Well, I stole parts of the title from a comment at The Loyal Trooper‘s myspace, but I thought it was a quite good way to describe this one-man-band’s music. The man behind The Loyal Trooper is Andy Walker, and on stage he is joined by Steve Simmonds on drums and Stu Ness on bass. Intensely catchy indie pop songs, rough and to the point, and with lyrics that makes you smile and think for a second …

Jeremy – happy popsounds from Norway

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile, Nordic music | 1 Comment

Today’s topic:Two young men in velour suits with their own backing band. The two young men are named Lars Christian and Øyvind and Jeremy. Hey, wait… I said TWO, didn’t I? Who’s Jeremy? JEREMY is what the two young men call their band, and they play shiny, beautiful sunshine-pop with uplifting choruses and melodies from another world. Definitely recommended! The band originates from the city of Stavanger, Norway, and they are right now in the studio to record their debut album. …

Eardrums Interview – Marc Bianchi (xoxo, her space holiday)

Posted on by Nicolas in Interviews | 1 Comment

Marc Bianchi has a million things going on. After more than a decade of putting out records as Her Space Holiday, he’s now started making music as “xoxo, panda”, and is shooting a movie; and that’s just the big stuff, not counting the various remixes, side-side projects, and an ongoing war on capitalisation. Marc was kind enough to answer a few questions about the past, the present and the future.

Dumb Luck – Jimmy Tamborello Is Back As Dntel

Posted on by Nicolas in Bandprofile | Comments Off

I spent the entire day sitting at my office computer that doesn’t have speakers, literally twitching after I realised [thanks to Pitchfork again] that a track from Dntel’s upcoming album, Dumb Luck, was out. Dntel is the main solo project of Jimmy Tamborello (aka James Figurine, who released last year’s most underrated electro record and single). On his previous record under that name, Life Is Full Of Possibilities, Jimmy teamed up with Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie for …

New from The Mary Onettes – "Void"

Posted on by Knut in Nordic music | 1 Comment

Labrador records has released a new 3 track EP from The Mary Onettes. The EP is the band’s second release and it includes the songs “void”, “every day and today” and “translate”. The label is always kind enough to give away a free mp3 when they have a new release out, and this time they give us the title track, “void”. It sounds like The Smiths with Morten Harket of A-ha on vocals, doesn’t it? A great combination if you …

The Ruling Class

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile, Nordic music | 1 Comment

Oh, how I have missed those beats and that sound… London’s The Ruling Class has a sound very similar to bands from the Madchester scene of the 90s. Groovy basslines, catchy guitar riffs and rolling drumbeats with clear references to great bands like Stone Roses, The Charlatans, Ride and James. The band has recently signed to one of our favorite labels, the legendary Shelflife Records, and will be releasing a 7 track cd/ep + a single (“flowers”) there later this …

Eardrums Interview – The Postmarks

Posted on by Nicolas in Interviews | Comments Off

Have the stars aligned for The Postmarks? This indie pop band from Florida has gathered quite a bit of press with the release of its debut album last month. With influences like “Saint Etienne, Burt Bacharach or French movies from the late 60′s” (says Knut), the band gave us a collection of sweet and idiosyncratic songs, which you can stream here. Chris, a member of the trio, took the time to answer our questions.

Esiotrot

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile | 1 Comment

Esiotrot???The name looks less weird if you read it backwards or if you are familiar with Roald Dahl’s children’s books. One of Roald Dahl’s less famous books is about a tortoise who doesn’t seem to grow and about the “magic spell” that will make it grow (it begins “ESIO TROT, ESIO TROT, TEG REGGIB REGGIB!” ). The book is of course called Esio Trot, but since we rarely write much about children’s books here at Eardrums, there must be something …

Canadian band STARS with concept album

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile | Comments Off

The canadian band STARS will release a concept album called “Do you trust your friends?”. Quoting from the pressrelease, the concept is this: “Do you trust your friends? Would you let them redecorate your apartment, or do your homework for you? Would you let them buy your clothes or groceries? Would you leave them in charge of your kids? And if you did, what would they change? Does one of them secretly think you wear too much blue, or eat …
