Sometimes I find little things that make my day. It can be the way the sun shines through the trees, a word someone says, a smell or a sound that reminds me of something, – or a piece of music made by Little Things.
Two songs received by email have been played over and over again. Each time I play these songs, I hear something new. Each time, I’m struck by the brilliant arrangements and the fantastic harmonies made by two very different voices singing on the same song. I just love it, – especially the sticky line “It’s too hot in the summer to write dancing songs, so I wrote a little song that we could all sing a-lalalala-along to” (or something like that…) and the “wa-wa-wha-a”‘s.
Not the kind of lyrics that will change your life, but it goes straight to my heart anyway. Very, very good stuff. “Lullaby” is one of the most beautiful modern good night-songs I’ve heard in a very long time.
The facts:
- - Little Things are 3 boys and a girl from Guildford, UK.
- - When they’re not playing their instruments in Little Things, they are all finishing their degrees in contemporary music, except for Ed, their drummer, who has just started his degree in music production.
- - They have released one e.p. called “Three songs for everyone”, available from their website.
- - Another e.p. was released, then pulled, because they needed to sort out the mixes. Once they get their students loans (three weeks from now, according to Henry, their singer), they’re going to order a run of 500 cd’s that can be bought from their myspace and the website. The new EP will be called ‘Swallows and Little Things’, and there will be 5 songs on it, including the two songs we feature here (“Lullaby” will be in an alternate version).
- - In August, they will be releasing a 7” with a new track called “Best nights sleep on it” + “Lullaby” (this version).
- - They’re a fantastic band. Today they are the best band in the world, – in my world. Tomorrow I guess another great band will take their place, but today they’re the best.
Enough facts, – let’s hear the music that I’m so excited about:
