Orouni – Bare-bones folk from Paris
Here’s a new French artist for you today: his stage name is Orouni, and he’s got a magical guitar, which looks like this:

Orouni plays songs that can be summed up as “lo-fi folk”, at least regarding the tone and the breadth of the instruments used;most of the time, it’s a guitar, a few percussions and a very pretty voice with a French accent; in that regard, it’s somewhat reminiscent of other parisian artists like My Broken Frame or the quieter tracks by the Herman Dne family. A handful of songs go beyond that classification and into the most graceful pop, just like the best songs of singers like Cat Power.

A Matter of Scale is the title of the record, and it’s starting to get some attention in French magazines (like the referential Magic!) and on college radio. The best thing is that you can stream the album directly on last.fm, as well as some older demo songs that are just as beautiful. “The Perfume Conspiracy” is probably my favourite, and it’s turning me onto Mina Tindle (all mp3s shared by Orouni on last.fm).
