The Ting Tings – raw attitude + commercial appeal

Here’s a new band you should check out if you like catchy, danceable indie pop with lots of attitudefrom the UK: The Ting Tings. They are super-fresh in all meanings of the phrase. The Ting Tings started playing together less thana year ago, and they have already made quite a buzz for themselves in England. They have a limited edition 7″ single out on Switchflicker records now, and the record shops are using several interesting references to describe the music. Pure Groove describesitquite to the point “One part Shangri-La’s, one part White Stripes, one part Girls Aloud, this is wonderful stuff, both massively commerical and totally lovable at the same time.” Rough Trade says it this way: “think a mix of the b52′s, bananarama, toni basil and euphoric electro-pop”. Mmm, yeah, I can hear those references too. I think my keywords would be raw attitude mixed with high commercial appeal.
I don’t have any proper mp3′s for you this time, only a couple of short 45 second clips from the labelsite. It gives you an idea. If you want to listen to the full songs, myspace is a good place to go. “Great DJ” is the B-side, but I like it better than the a-side, so I’ll put that one first… You can buy the single from the label’s shop.
