Elle s’appelle – UK indie at its finest, and I’m excited!!!

When I heard the music of Liverpool’s Elle s’appelle for the first time, I almost fell to the floor in excitement! So refreshing! An awesome energy combined with delicate, intelligent arrangements and marvellous melodies, – This is indie rock at its finest! Fun, danceable, quirky, intelligent and totally addictive… I just love the fantastic twists and turns the band make in their arrangements, and listening to "she sells sea shells" or "Little Flame" just makes me smile. I could listen to this band all day!
So, who are they?
Elle s’appelle is Andrew Donovan singing and playing bass, Lucy Blakeley playing keys and singing and Owen Cox playing drums. Their music has been described as sounding ‘like Mates of State covering XTC and Billy Joel with occasional Freddie Mercury vocals’, but the band refers to their songs as ‘Hyperactive nursery rhymes’. Hyperactive is definitely a word that can describe Elle s’appelle! What an energy!
The band has been touring with great indie names as Hot Club de Paris, Shiny Toy Guns and Johnny Foreigner, and will be playing all over the UK in the coming months. In mid November they will do a joint headline tour with the band My Amiga.Check myspace for details.
One of the songs we feature here, "Little Flame" will be released as a 7" via Moshi Moshi singles club later this year (according to the band probably in October or November). This will be their first release. Also check out the other fantastic songs "Mariappa" (just wonderful! The vocalists really show their strength on this one…) and Seesaw.
Here are two songs by Elle s’appelle (Thanks to the band!)
Elle s’appelle – Little Flame
Elle s’appelle – She sells Sea shells
And what about the name, you ask?
Elle s’appelle is French for "She is called".
Do you think this is as great as I think it is? Will this be the new big thing from the UK?
You tell me in a comment, please… I love it!
