Wow, this boy can sing! A Moto Boy album review.

Tweet   Wow, this boy can sing! I’ve been listening to Moto Boy a.k.a. Oskar Humlebo‘s debut album for a while now, and it is rare to hear male voices like that on a pop record these days… He has a very powerful voice and a magnificent range, from the deep to the really high falsetto-tones. The vocal lines are complex, but when Humlebo sings, he sounds relaxed and confident, – like this is the easiest thing in the world. …

New track from Stars in Coma + album out soon

Posted on by Knut in Nordic music, Songs | Comments Off

Tweet Sweden’s Stars in Coma has recorded a new song THIS MORNING, and he is so kind to share this with us via his myspace pages. The song is a cover of the 60s sunshine pop band Eternity’s Children, and it is called "My Happiness Day". I had to check the title a couple of times, because there is a song with a similar title on Stars in Coma’s  upcoming album "You’re still frozen in time", called "My Sunshine Years". …

A post about The Darlings, the wonderful WeePOP!-label and how they made me love the cd again…

Tweet (Photo from WeePOP’s website) I have been quite clear on this earlier, – I don’t like cds. Until the recent years, when it has been possible to buy good music without getting the actual cd, my view on "the thing" has been that they’re a necessary evil that fills up space I need for more beautiful and useful things. I like SOME cds. The ones that comes without the plastic boxes, and that feels good to touch and look …

Northern Fields – new project from Celestial’s Andreas Hagman

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile, Nordic music | Comments Off

Tweet A new project has emerged from the productive main force behind Sweden’s Celestial, Andreas Hagman. The project is called Northern Fields, and I’ve just received a beautiful 5 track ep which has been played over and over again in my house the last couple of days. Northern Fields sound very "Swedish indie" (- in my private dictionary  that means highly melodic popmusic filled with jangly guitars and that sweet, lovely, summery sound). In Celestial, Hagman is the only one …

The Voluntary Butler Scheme – new project from The School’s drummer

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile, Other | 1 Comment

Tweet The Voluntary Butler Scheme is a new and interesting  pop project from Stourbridge, UK. – Super melodic, harmonic, sweet and wonderful popmusic that puts a smile on my face every time I hear it. The only real member, as far as I know, is Rob  Jones, also known as the drummer in the Cardiff-band The School.  According to his myspace, the other "members"  of TVBS are  Marc Bolan – Bass // Johnny Cash – Shakers & Backing vocals // …

Tweet Truls and the Trees are new and exciting act on the norwegian indie sceene. This is Lukestar member Truls Heggero’s solo project. Truls and the Trees released their debut album "Ailanthus" some weeks ago. The album contains great indie pop songs with a lot of elements from folk music. Truls Heggero is a very productive young man at the moment as Lukestar will release their new album "Lake Toba" early in 2008. Listen to more songs at the bands Myspace …

Pascal soon out with new album, “Galgeberget”

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile, Nordic music, Reviews | Comments Off

Tweet – wonderful cover-art, isn’t it? Sweden’s Pascal is like a Nordic Jesus and Mary Chain, – rough, unpolished and lo-fi. But where the Reid-brothers seemed to hide behind their dark sunglasses and "I don’t care" attitude, Mimmi, Manuela and Isak‘s music in Pascal is filled with feelings and personal stories. Sometimes it is love, love, love, and other times it really gets dirty, destructive and angry. I started my love affair with this band just before they released their …
