James Yuill, – a man, an acoustic guitar and a laptop

Well, here in Eardrums, we go from one style to another before you are able to blink. In my last post, I wrote about bedroom lo-fi pop, and now I will write about an artist that combine hi-tech equipment with acoustic instruments. Tomorrow something else, probably….
James Yuill is an artist I have listened a lot to the last months. He released a brilliant album late last year, called "Turning down water for air", and now the song that made me buy the album. "No surprise", is released as his new single. Yuill has a lot of the old singer-songwriter in him, where the melody and the acoustic guitar is in focus, but he’s also the DJ, the remixer and the electronic artist James Yuill. On his album, he combines the two, and as you can see in this video, he features as both. Some of his songs are purely acoustic, while others are more beat-focused and based on the electronics. Yuill has become an active remixer too, and his recent work includes remixes for artists like Au Revoir Simone, The Answering Machine and Broadcast2000.
Check out the video for his latest single, and be sure to check out his myspace too, where you can listen to some of his other songs.

You can also visit Yuill on his own website, but at the moment of writing, the site is down due to bandwidth problems.
