New EP from Pocketbooks, “Waking Up EP”

February 16th, 2008 by Knut

Pocketbooks

Pocketbooks will be releasing a new EP on 17th March called the "Waking Up EP", and I am really happy, because I like this band a lot! Their early free releases were good, their first proper single was fantastic, and the song I’ve heard so far from this one sounds absolutely brilliant. Very nice melodies and some perfect vocalwork from both of their singers The EP will be out on the new label  Make Do and Mend records in Europe (this will be MD&M’s first release as a label), and on Valiant Death records in USA. If you can’t wait until the 17th March, it’s possible to get advance copies if you order at Make Do and Mend’s website, and the band will also sell EPs at upcoming gigs (check their myspace).
According to their myspace blog, the recordings must have been a fun experience… I quote:

"We recorded the songs in one weekend last autumn at Random Colours, a cosy north London studio filled with classic hammond organs, a selection of drum kits (from jazz to rock, via indiepop) and an impressive range of books. Jonny recorded his parts in a single take, Dan soaked up as much studio knowledge as possible, Ian unveiled a dazzling arrray of rock poses, Emma looked like a true professional singing in the vocal booth and Andy wrote and discarded Christmas songs inbetween takes."

There’s a free MP3 on the new label’s website, a wonderful song with some harmonies that really make me smile! You can also listen to some of the new songs on the band’s myspace.

Listen!
