Champagne Riot

Shelflife records has always represented quality to me, and their latest releases from Sweden’s Days, Kuryakin and the Ruling Class (UK/Sweden), are all wonderful. More about them later this week.
The label will release an EP by Champagne Riot during the summer, and after giving it a few listens, I can assure you that the quality is present here too. Champagne Riot is basically one person, Casper, a Danish musician with a great passion for perfect, timeless pop songs. At the moment, he’s living in the UK (if my information is correct), and from there, he’s making his retro-sounding popmusic. We are taken back to the 80s, and bands like ABBA, A-ha, The Lightnings Seeds, New Order and Saint Etienne are the easy references. I’m also thinking of not especially 80s sounding artists like The Radio Dept when I hear Champagne Riot, – especially in the way the vocals are recorded and composed.
The debut EP “Paris and I” will be released on Shelflife Records during Summer 2008. The release on Shelflife will be limited to 300 copies, consisting each of a 7″ vinyl (2 songs) and a CD (4 songs). According to the band’s website, a non-limited release of the EP on CD and vinyl later this year is currently being considered.
