Sunny Summer Day with new EP, “me, myself and the empty soul”

Indonesian Sunny Summer Day was one of the bands we featured on our recent “Summer’s Here” compilation here at Eardrums. Now, they’ve got a new download-only EP available on Letterbox Records, and after listening to the six songs on “me, myself and the empty soul” I can give this release my warm recommendations.
This is jangly, melodic indie pop, and the band is more than a little inspired by bands from the legendary Sarah Records. Some of their songs may sound a bit too much like old heroes (Primal Scream from around the c86 time, The Sea Urchins, The Field Mice, The Orchids, 14 iced bears, Brighter + others), and on especially one of their songs (not one of the ep tracks) I find myself singing the words from Primal Scream’s “Velocity Girl” to the Sunny Summer Day-song. I’m not sure if that is a good thing, but for people like me, who love this kind of music, it’s easy to ignore, and just sing along…
All of the songs on the ep holds a high quality, and I especially like the catchy “You’re the one for me” and “Happy in the summer”. As expected, a fine release from Sunny Summer Day!
