Northern Portrait – Napoleon Sweetheart EP

Posted on by Knut in Reviews | Comments Off

I am always excited when Matinée Records release something new, because so far (and they have a long history) EVERYTHING have been good from this label. The recent years have been better than ever, and one of the bands from the label that really has made my heart beat faster recently, is the Danish indiepop-trio Northern Portrait. Earlier this year, they released their fabulous debut ep  “The Fallen Aristocracy”, with the intensely catchy “Crazy” as the leading track. Now they …

Ukulele versions of The Field Mice, Wedding Present, Morrissey, Björk, The 6ths, The Cure, New Order… This guy even makes Metallica sound like Pure Pop!

THE FIELD MICE – IF YOU NEED SOMEONE (covered by razorio007) [youtube a3hkfWkCkfE] I stumbled over some videos on youtube this morning by a guy with the username razorio007. I was actually searching on Google for one of my favourite Sarah Records-bands, The Springfields, which sent me to a Sarah-video and then to this guy covering The Field Mice on his ukulele. I looked through his profile and found a lot of wonderful cover versions, all on ukulele, and sadly, …

Rökkurró from Iceland – Beautiful!

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile, Nordic music | Comments Off

Check this out! It’s a wonderful band from Iceland called Rökkurró. I just bought their lovely album “Thad kolnar i kvold…”, and I only understand parts of the lyrics, but the music is so wonderful that it’s just nice to imagine what the songs are about. The album is out on 12tonar, and you can buy it through their webshop. Enjoy! [youtube hk9itdbcgFk]

New song from Hello Saferide!

Posted on by Knut in Nordic music, Songs | Comments Off

I just saw this, and am listening to the song for the first time as I write this. Pitchfork has a new song from Hello Saferide on their site, and I just had to tell you… Sounds great, as always. Hello Saferide – Anna (via pitchfork)

My Little Pony – “Skipping down the street” video

Posted on by Knut in Other | Comments Off

Those of you who have downloaded our free “Summer’s Here!” compilation should know the super-catchy opening track on volume 1, My Little Pony with “Skipping down the street”.  The song is also the first single from My Little Ponys forthcoming album which is to be released on Spoon Train Audio on October 20, an album I am really looking forward to. The band has recently made a wonderful music video for this song, recorded at Oslo Central Station with random …

The Deer Tracks – Aurora

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile, Nordic music, Reviews | 2 Comments

The Deer Tracks is a Swedish duo consisting of David Lehnberg and Elin Lindfors, both from a town called Gävle. Their debut album “Aurora” is released this month on Despotz records, and it’s one of the album I’m listening most to at the moment. Their music is electronic, dreamy and experimental (but in a “friendly to the ear” kind of way), and the wonderful melodies, the hushed, almost fragile vocals and the calm, organic atmosphere makes this a really good …

I love Sportsday Megaphone!

Posted on by Knut in Songs | Comments Off

UK’s raw electropop-project Sportsday Megaphone is one of the artists that immediately get my attention whenever I see the name. I love everything I’ve heard from him, and the songs I’ve heard so far from the upcoming debut album is also very, very easy to like, at least for me. The album will be released in September on Sundays Best, and it’s called “So many colours/ so little time”. Am I looking forward to it? Mmmm…Yeah! In August, SDMP will …

New single and video from Nat Johnson

Posted on by Knut in Other | 1 Comment

Wow, there are so many things I should have posted about, but it’s the “time-thing” again… I’m working on a new Eardrums compilation, and have already received 10 very nice tracks + waiting for a lot more. Something to look forward to, I guess. It will be released in September, if everything goes as planned. Now, this I could not leave unposted. It’s the new single and video from Nat Johnson, the former singer of one of my favourite bands, …

The Bank Holidays on tour

Posted on by Knut in Other | Comments Off

I just wanted to mention that one of my favourite bands, The Bank Holidays (who also were featured on our summer compilation “Summer’s Here!”), will be on tour in Northern Europe and Scandinavia in September, and if you have the chance, please go and visit their shows! Sadly, I’m probably not able to go, but if you can, go there for me! Great support bands too. Here are the dates, plus the song we featured on “Summer’s Here!” below, and …

New single from Park Hotell, and what a single!

Posted on by Knut in Nordic music, Songs | 2 Comments

“Dead Ringers” is the name of the new single from Sweden’s Park Hotell, and what a song it is! I had really good feelings for this band when they released their debut EP “The Guest who stayed forever”, but this sounds even better. High tempo, high energy, rough guitars and vocals that may remind of Morrissey in the early days of the Smiths. This sounds so much tighter than they used to be. It’s not possible, at least not for …
