The Deer Tracks – Aurora

The Deer Tracks is a Swedish duo consisting of David Lehnberg and Elin Lindfors, both from a town called Gävle. Their debut album “Aurora” is released this month on Despotz records, and it’s one of the album I’m listening most to at the moment. Their music is electronic, dreamy and experimental (but in a “friendly to the ear” kind of way), and the wonderful melodies, the hushed, almost fragile vocals and the calm, organic atmosphere makes this a really good album to listen to. They never rush, and they never use more sound than they need to tell their musical stories.
It’s melancholic, sometimes sad, sometimes more uplifted, and stunningly beautiful all the way. Their melodic sense is impressive, and that really makes this album perfect for me. I discover new things underneath the fine melodies all the time, and the pop-feeling on top adds a huge dose of friendliness and warmth to the album. Sometimes they take small trips out of the minimalistic soundscape, and burst into huge crescendos of sound and emotion. It’s gives me that good feeling, and I guess that’s what great albums do.
The Deer Tracks have much in common with Iceland’s Múm and also some of the artists on the German Morr Music, but they are very much their own creation. Get this as fast as you can, – it will be a wonderful companion to the darker months to come.
