I’m currently completely in love with the music of Rhys Marsh And The Autumn Ghost. Beautiful and very interesting to listen to at the same time. Rhys Marsh is originally from London, UK, but lives in Trondheim, Norway at the moment. On November 3rd, he will release his debut album “The Fragile State Of Inbetween” on Better Place Recordings. On the album, he uses as much as 17 musicians from bands like Jaga Jazzist, Änglagård and Anekdoten, and the result is stunningly beautiful and organic music that goes straight to my heart when I hear it.
The arrangements are interesting, and the way he works with contrasts and dynamics just makes me want to sit down and really listen, over and over again. Songs can flow silently like a river for a while, then explode into fireworks of sound, stop for a while, flow for a while and then take a completely different direction. When things like this sound so RIGHT for the song, it’s just an incredible experience to listen to it.
When I listen to Rhys Marsh’s music, I get the same feeling as I do when I listen to one of my favourite artists, David Sylvian. Their music is not far away from each other, and both artists seem to have the same pop sensibility combined with an urge to experiment and explore.
Rhys Marsh and The Autumn Ghost’s album can be pre-ordered from the Swedish DOTSHOP, and it will also be available in a digital format. The first single from the album will be “Liquorice Kiss”, which will be released for free on October 20. Watch his myspace for more info. The myspace page includes lots of more gems to listen to.
Here’s a track from the album, and I hope you will enjoy this as much as I do:
