This week’s good things according to Eardrums #2

A little bit of this and a little bit of that here today. I’ve been sick and not very energetic at all the last week, so there haven’t been much to be excited about, but I’m kind of excited about these things:

The great Shelflife Records has several things going on these days. Their website has been redesigned to the better, and the label is now also present on both twitter and facebook. Another great thing with Shelflife’s new web-presence is that they have started their own music blog. You can find it here http://www.shelflife.com/blog/ and so far the posts have been very interesting to read. Shelflife is also maintaining the label-part, and a new release is ready right now from an artist we have written about here on the blog earlier, Champagne Riot. “Paris and I” is the name of the new combined 4 track cd and 2 track 7″, and after listening for a while on it, I can recommend it warmly. Read here what I wrote about this ep some months ago, and then head over to shelflife and buy it!

Check out the latest 5…4…3…2…fun!!-radioshow as a podcast. Hoshwa has as usual two bands in the studio playing live, and this time it’s Slumberland’s fine Crystal Stilts and Cause Co-Motion.
You can download the latest show here, and as usual you will get much much more than just the performances. Hoshwa’s radio show is always a pleasure to listen to! Highly recommended!

Very Truly Yours, – the Chicago quartet who participated on “A Good Crop” and features Fireflies’ Lisle Mitnik on guitars, has a brilliantly wonderful new song on their myspace profile. It’s called “Every little word”, and it’s just as good as I expected from these people. I love this band! UPDATE: Today, they have yet another new song up on their player, – “To see you here”, – also a good one.

Fanfarlo is in studio to record their album at the moment, and their video diaries from the studio are both fun and interesting to watch. Check them out on Fanfarlo’s myspace.

A new month, and Jimmy Tamborello/James Figurine/DNTEL++ does it again: Every month he has a free, exclusive mp3 for download on his website, and these are mostly covers or remixes of his own favourites. Last month he did a great Depeche Mode cover, and this month he does The Streets’ “Blinded by the lights” in a quite different version than the original. Get it here: http://www.dntelmusic.com/ and click on projects and dntel.

New albums worth checking out:
I’ve bought a lot of music lately, but most of it is older albums. Here are some that are both new and recommended:

Julie Venus – s/t (debutalbum from another band we had on A Good Crop, Julie Venus. Swedish/French Julie Venus makes delicious electro-pop with a touch of melancholy. The album can be bought at Klicktrack.)

Parker Lewis, yet another Swedish artist we had on the compilation mentioned above, has just released his new album. It’s one of my favourites at the moment, – great, soulful pop music, – and the whole album is free for download on the label’s website. Yes, free, – all of it. Get it from the label at www.madforit.se.

The Fakes – I know you are smiling because you are asleep (Australian band with a dreamy sound and whispery female vocals. Reminds me of Mazzy Star or Slowdive in a way, – great tunes. The album can be bought from Klicktrack)

Sad Day For Puppets – Unknown Colors (jangly indiepop, great album! Also bought on Klicktrack… I’m NOT sponsored in any way!
)

They Live by Night – s/t (indie pop swedish style, – upbeat and catchy. Released on Razzia records, and also this is available on Klicktrack…).
So, what has been your best things of the week? Tell me in a comment!
