Seeland

New signing on the always brilliant and creative label Loaf recordings is the Birmingham band Seeland, whom I’ve been keeping my eyes and ears on for a while now. Seeland has a base in electronic music, but their songs does not sound purely electronic. Acoustic and organic elements are present all the way, with almost folky vocals and an overall spacey and partly psychedelic sound. The project has been around since 2004, and they feature two members from influential bands like Plone and Broadcast, – Tim Felton (vocals/guitars) and Mike Bainbridge (electronics/vocals). They have newly recruited Neil McAuley as their third member, on bass.
The new single, “Library”, is the band’s second. Their first was released on Stereolab‘s duophonic label, where also Broadcast released some of their earliest material. Broadcast and Stereolab are often compared to eachother, and Seeland definitely have elements of the Stereolab/Broadcast/pop-kraut-psychedelia-sound. They do not sound very similar to eachother, but there are some elements that connects them. Their name comes from a NEU! song, if I’m correct, so I guess that says a little bit about their influences.
Seeland’s debut album “Tomorrow Today” is scheduled to be released in March 2009, and the new single ‘Library’ bw ‘Call the Incredible’ is released 15th December 2008. You can get the digital version already now on itunes, emusic and probably from other digital retailers too.
