Delta Cockers – Close to home indie

September 22nd, 2009 by Natalia

NOTE FROM KNUT: We are so lucky to have two new writers here at Eardrums, Natalia and Michelle. Welcome! This is Natalia’s first post on the blog. The word is yours, Natalia:

I spent a couple days trying to figure out how to choose a band for my first post here on Eardrums, and I couldn’t help but pick one from my home town.

Delta cockers is a band from Curitiba – Brazil, they play a pretty easy going, experimental electro/folk/indie kind of music (though it might take some getting used to, at first). They already have 2 EPs out, which you can download for free on their myspace: O Começo da Paisagem and Quadrados Continentais, and are working on a third one for later this year.

Marcell Eduardo and Rafael Panke manage to come up with a really unusual approach to their music, not only with the instrumental part. What really makes them stand out is the fact that they sing in portuguese, unlike most alternative brazilian bands out there. Actually, they are so comfortable with distancing themselves from english that they recorded versions of 3 quite famous songs (and here they are, in case you’re curious):

And, as a treat, my favorite track until now, from their O Começo da Paisagem EP
