A post about Team Ghost, M83, Yeti Lane and how to write good press-releases…

I rarely find press-releases very interesting, and most of the time, they are filled with awful descriptions and superlatives that really tell me nothing about the music at all. Today, I received a press release from Sonic Cathedral Recordings that not only included a song that made me go “Wow!”, but the press-release itself was just how I want it to be: not too long, a little bit of info about the project, – not too much-, and a good, understandable description of the music. Instead of trying to rewrite the info in it, I’m for once just going to give you most of it, just as I received it… Enjoy!

Team Ghost is the new band formed by Nicolas Fromageau, a founding member of M83 alongside Anthony Gonzalez. After co-writing M83′s first two albums, ‘M83‘ and the landmark ‘Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts‘, he quit and left his native Antibes for Paris. Now he returns as Team Ghost, backed by multi-instrumentalist Christophe Guérin and producer/manager Jean-Philippe Talaga (founder of Gooom Disques).

Their debut EP, ‘You Never Did Anything Wrong To Me’, is released on Sonic Cathedral Recordings on May 3. It will be available as a limited-edition black and white vinyl 10-inch and a download. Musically, it takes the M83 blueprint of electronica, shoegaze and cinematic, Eno-esque soundscapes and adds krautrock rhythms, the sleazy Suicide-like post-punk of JJ Burnel’s ‘Euroman Cometh’ and the stark synth-pop of the French coldwave.”

There you go, – lots of facts said with few words and not too many hopeless descriptions. The good thing is that Team Ghost actually sound almost like they describe them, – like “electronica + shoegaze + cinematic, Eno-esque soundscapes +  krautrock rhythms + Suicide-like post-punk of JJ Burnel’s ‘Euroman Cometh’ + synth-pop of the French coldwave”. You can have a listen to their music on the band’s myspace. I especially like “A Glorious Time”

The first track I heard from Team Ghost was their remix of another wonderful Sonic Cathedral-band, Yeti Lane. Yeti Lane’s recent debut-album is one of my favourite albums at the moment, and I can not recommend it enough. Here’s Team Ghost’s remix of Yeti Lane’s track “Twice”, and like a good remix should, it sounds like both bands. It leaves the essential of Yeti Lane’s “Twice” and adds some essential elements of Team Ghost . Enjoy!

Nice coincidence, I saw Team Ghost last night at a Magic-organised concert (headlining: Memory Tapes + Your Twenties). Didn’t know them before I saw them, and I can’t vouch for the record, but live they sound a LOT like Amusement Parks on Fire used to sound. They seem to really enjoy themselves a lot, good vibes.
