Album-news from Hong Kong in the 60s

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile | Comments Off

Hong Kong In The 60s is a band I have kept my eyes and ears on for some time now, and I was very happy when I saw that their debut-album will be released later this year. The album is almost finished, and I have been lucky enough to be allowed a sneak listen to four of the new songs. The  title of the album is “My Fantoms”, and all the songs I have heard are top quality. I especially …

The Soft City

The small Peruvian indiepop-label Plastilina records was the label behind one of my favourite releases from last year, The Hi-Life Companion‘s “Say Yes!”, and now another goodie is released by this label. I guess you can call The Soft City an “indiepop supergroup” with former members of bands like Comet Gain, Kicker, Ladybug Transistor, A Boy Named Thor and Crystal Stilts. The band started as the solo project of Phil Sutton (Comet Gain, Kicker), and with the help of some …

Patrick Hamilton

A band called Patrick Hamilton have sent me a nice email with one of their songs attached, and I really like what I hear. Ralegh, who is the singer in the band, tell me that they’re named after the 1930′s English writer and alcoholic, and he continues “Like our namesake, we write about the banality and the beauty of everyday life, unlike him, we are a fourpiece in our early twenties.” When I listen to “These four walls”, I’m sent …

To My Boy “Hello Horizon” (2010) from Matt Freeth on Vimeo. When the UK band To My Boy released their debut album, lots of people (including me) had high hopes for them. After the album, they kind of disappeared for a long time, but now they’re back. In my ears, they sound better than ever. More organic, less restless, – still very melodic. This is the video for their new single, “Hello Horizon”, which is taken from their upcoming new …

Simian Ghost is the brainchild of Sebastian Arnström from the Swedish band Aerial. The new single from the project is called “Star receiver”, and it’s a dreamy electronic pop song with acoustic guitars and lots of warmth. According to the press-release, the overall sound of Simian Ghost is harder to pinpoint. Simian Ghost’s debut album “Infinite traffic everywhere” will be in the shops soon. Free ep from Robert Svensson

Robert Svensson is back with a new EP, “The Beat EP”, which includes 3 new songs. I was a bit surprised when I put this one on, because it’s very dancefloor orientated and not at all what I expected from Svensson. The good melodies are still there, but this time with beats. The Swedish singer Jennie Abrahamsson is singing together with him on the titletrack “Beat”. You can download the EP for free if you sign up for Robert Svensson’s …
