Exit The Honeydrips

Posted on by Knut in Songs | 1 Comment

Tweet The Honeydrips are no more. You can download the farewell single, “Höstvisa”, from Sincerely Yours website. It’s a cover of a Swedish evergreen, written by Tove Jansson and Erna Tauro. Beautiful! http://www.sincerelyyours.se/yours0143.php If you need another gem to comfort you with after reading about The Honeydrips exit, you can go to our netlabel EardrumsPop and download The Honeydrips’ collaboration with Boa Constrictor, “Please Do Not Lie” from our “Between Two Waves” compilation.

The Soundcarriers

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile, Songs | Comments Off

Tweet The Soundcarriers is a band from the UK who released one of my favourite albums last year, their beautiful debut album ‘Harmonium’ . Now they’re ready with a follow up, ‘Celeste’, due for release on August 9 on the Melodic label. Their  music sound like a mix between kraut, psychedelia, the harmonic vocal pop of 60s/70s bands like The Free Design and modern bands like Stereolab or Broadcast (who probably have the same musical inspirations as The Soundcarriers have…) …

Storm the Charts with The Grave Architects, Shrag and many more…

Posted on by Knut in Other | Comments Off

Tweet Photo: The Grave Architects “Storm The Charts” is a big campaign with its main goal to fill the UK top 40 with independent and unsigned bands for INDEPENDENTS DAY, next Sunday. 40 songs by 40 artists who aren’t on major labels and haven’t charted before have been chosen, and the team behind the campaign are asking people to download as many different songs from the list as they can, and we’ll see what happens on the 4th of July… It’s …

Frankie Rose and The Outs with debut-album on Slumberland

Posted on by Knut in Other | Comments Off

Tweet Frankie Rose made one of last year’s best singles, “Thee Only One”, and I’m really excited that her debut album is ready and set for release on Slumberland Records September 21. For those of you who don’t know her music or her background, I can tell you that she’s been involved in bands like Crystal Stilts, Dum Dum Girls and Vivian Girls (- she wrote my favourite Vivian Girls song, “Where do you run to?”). I haven’t heard the …

The Smile And Frowns

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile, Songs | 1 Comment

Tweet The Smiles & Frowns are a duo from Phoenix, Arizona whowill release their debut album late this summer (Aug. 16) on the Manchester-based DIY label aA Recording. Their songs are very imaginative, full of fun psychedelic fantasy- stories of the kind you find on Syd Barrett’s albums/the first Pink Floyd-albums, The Beatles “White album” etc.. Musically, they’re not too different from the artists mentioned. Here’s my favourite from the album (and there are more songs of the same quality …

Murder Mystery – two new songs

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile, Songs | Comments Off

Tweet Murder Mystery have made two new songs available for free download. The first one is called “I Am (If You Are)”, with lovely vocals from drummer Laura Coleman. The band says it sounds like an unlikely collaboration between Stereolab and Madonna, and they’re quite right! My first thought was Rick Astley with female “indie-vocals”, which probably looks awful in writing, but it sounds really nice. Very bouncy and fun! The next song is called “Change My Mind” and it’s …

Interview with Standard Fare (from Scared To Dance Summer Fanzine)

Posted on by Knut in Interviews | 1 Comment

Tweet Paul Richards from Scared To Dance has allowed us to use his interview with Standard Fare from his new Scared To Dance Summer Fanzine in the blog. Standard Fare released one of my favourite albums, “The Noyelle Beat” earlier this year, – a brilliant album. As you see from the cover scan above, there are a lot of good stuff to read in the fanzine. Interviews with The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Allo Darlin, Betty and the …

Far Concern – lovely collage-pop from Australia

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile | Comments Off

Tweet I don’t know what it is about me and Australian music, but I have so many favourites from this country so far away from me. One of my new Australian favourites is Jared Davis from Melbourne. He makes his music under the artist-name Far Concern, and has so far only released a demo cd in 15 ex (!). Jared has his background from the art-world, and he actually made his first songs as late as in the end of …

The Momeraths

Tweet I was sure that I had written about this lovely band before, but I haven’t, so after months of loving The Momeraths‘ music, I just had to tell you about them. The band is from London, and have released some very good singles and eps so far. All their releases are available for download on the band’s bandcamp-page for a few pounds. Well worth it! http://www.myspace.com/wherethemomerathsgo http://themomeraths.co.uk/ http://momeraths.bandcamp.com/

Free goodies from February Records: Brilliant At Breakfast + Secret Charisma

Posted on by Knut in Recommended Releases, Songs | 4 Comments

Tweet February Records is the new name for Tweefort Records, and they have several good releases available at the moment. This is definitely a label you should add to your bookmark list, because they’re releasing good music often. I’m completely in love with their latest release, from the Indonesian band Brilliant At Breakfast. I’ve been aware of this band for some time, and have been waiting for a release from them. “Almost Verbose” is the title of the ep, and …
