The Smiles & Frowns are a duo from Phoenix, Arizona whowill release their debut album late this summer (Aug. 16) on the Manchester-based DIY label aA Recording.
Their songs are very imaginative, full of fun psychedelic fantasy- stories of the kind you find on Syd Barrett’s albums/the first Pink Floyd-albums, The Beatles “White album” etc.. Musically, they’re not too different from the artists mentioned. Here’s my favourite from the album (and there are more songs of the same quality as this one on their album). Very melodic and 60s inspired in both the songwriting and the recorded sound.
The Smiles & Frowns – Cornelius
Definitely sounds a lot like The Beatles. I really enjoyed the song, especially if the guitarist is really using a bow to play those violin sounds as that picture would suggest.
