Cocoanut Groove – “The End of the Summer on Bookbinder Road”

Posted on by Ivar in Nordic music | 1 Comment

Cocoanut Groove is Olov Antonsson – a young man from Umea in Sweden. His music has a nice 60s feeling to it. The sound is more inspired by Brian Wilson in the sandbox in his Pet Sound-days than The Rolling Stones, if you know what I mean. Olov plays most of the instruments himself on "The End of the Summer on Bookbinder Road": bass, piano, harpsichord, vocals, organ, guitars, percussion, trumpet, harmonica etc. But if you’re listen carefully you will hear Frida …

Truls and the Trees are new and exciting act on the norwegian indie sceene. This is Lukestar member Truls Heggero’s solo project. Truls and the Trees released their debut album "Ailanthus" some weeks ago. The album contains great indie pop songs with a lot of elements from folk music. Truls Heggero is a very productive young man at the moment as Lukestar will release their new album "Lake Toba" early in 2008. Listen to more songs at the bands Myspace . …

Cold Mailman – The Great Escape

Posted on by Ivar in Nordic music | 3 Comments

The Great Escape by Cold Mailman is a sweet and fragile popsong by a young unsigned artist from Norway. I could compare the song to some familiar music that we have presented here at Eardrums, but I’ll leave it to your own imagination Cold Mailman is Ivar Bowitz togheter with some friends and they start to record a album early next year. More music from Scotland: Frightened Rabbit

This have been my favourite song this week. From whom? A great song by a scottish band named Frightened Rabbitt. “Be Less Rude” is a nice jingly-jangly indie pop song – 80s inspired offcourse, lots of indie guitars and vocals. Glasgow-based Frightened Rabbitt’s album “Sings The Greys” is available now through the UK label Hits The Fan Records. Liked it? Listen to more songs at the band’s Myspace… and be less rude, folks! Fresh sounds from Trondheim: Magnus Sinnes

Listening to Magnus Sinnes´ "My Scarlet, my Violet" you can sense his talent for making beautiful pop songs with dramatic arrangements. This young artist is based in Trondheim, Norway, and he is inspired by artists like George Harrison and King Crimson. He hopes to be able to record a debut album soon. Listening to "My Scarlet, my Violet" I would say that he is more than ready to enter the recording studio. It is truley a beautiful song. Play it …

Lukestar – White Shade

Posted on by Ivar in Bandprofile, Nordic music | 1 Comment

The first time I listened to Lukestar‘s fantastic new single "White Shade" it got instantly inside my head, and stayed there! This is so fresh and so catchy and I am extremely optimistic on behalf of this alternative/powerpop band from Oslo, Norway. I wonder if I can detect a slight change in the bands style of music? This is more alternative/indie than the bands powerpop sound on the 2004 album "Alpine Unit". "White Shade", the first single from the bands …

Blind Terry sings about Prefab Sprout

When favourites Prefab Sprout are mentioned in a songtitle I simply cannot resist listening. Blind Terry, a quintet based in Stockholm, performs piano based popsongs with interesting and funny lyrics. Blind Terry released three songs on a 3″ CD single (100 copies) on Miami based indie label Cloudberry Records in August this year. Super Furry Animals – Run-Away

Posted on by Ivar in Bandprofile | Comments Off

I get a certain Phil Spector-feeling listening to Super Furry Animals‘ fresh song "Run-Away". It is such a great sunny pop track, and I can’t stop listening to it! The new SFA album is called "Hey Venus" and it’s due to be released August 28th. "Hey Venus" is the 8th studio album from one of UK’s most loved and highly respected bands. The first single from the new album is called "Show Your Hands", and you’ll find it on iTunes. …

If you’re not getting into a summer mood listening to The Postmarks’ "Dreamer" you probably are made of stone, or something even harder! Florida’s finest, The Postmarks, have made a great cover version of brazilian Astrud Gilberto’s gorgeous bossa nova lovesong "Dreamer". This is THE theme for lazy warm summer nights!
