Hiawata! is one of the Norwegian bands I have high hopes for in 2009. I am finally starting to be proud of the pop-music from my own country, and I can thank among others the bands who feature on this free release from the SellOut! Music label for that. ‘These boys and this band is all i know’ is the title of Hiawata!’s upcoming album, and after having the chance to pre-listen to an early version of the album, I …

More great releases so far in 2009 (- part 2, I think)

Posted on by Knut in Recommended Releases | 1 Comment

If you haven’t read part one of this, go to this post and get the first recommendations. Some of these may have been released in 2008, but I don’t care. 2009 is the year I learnt to love them properly. Here are my recommendations, so start saving to get them all (some are free or cheap, so I helped you a bit there!). All of these are high class releases in my book, and 2009 have been a brilliant year …

Recommended podcast: Bored to hear your heart still breaks “Covering the 60s”

Posted on by Knut in Other | Comments Off

I am not a music-podcast-loving person, – I am often too restless to sit down and listen through a 60 minute mp3-file without the possibility to skip a track if I want to. I listen a lot to other kinds of podcasts, but music podcasts are not me. Two music podcasts I just HAVE to listen to every time, are Bored to hear your heart still breaks /run by Camila from WeePop!) and Hey Hey Honeypop! (run by Marianthi from …

Free EP from The Little hands of Asphalt

Posted on by Knut in Nordic music | Comments Off

The Little Hands of Asphalt has released a free EP called “Spit back at the Rain-EP” exactly one month before his debut album “Leap Years” will be in the shops on March 9. The EP has 5 songs, including “Blue & Green” which we had on our “Summer’s here!” compilation and four tracks that didn’t make it on the album. If these songs are “left-overs” I am even more looking forward to the album! These are wonderful songs, all of …

Esiotrot with free live album

Posted on by Knut in Other | Comments Off

My favourite band inspired by a tale by Roald Dahl, Esiotrot, has made a live-album from a concert they did at The Betsey Trotwood. I am downloading as we speak, so I haven’t heard it yet. On the cover it says “For fans only, unhinged and unrehearsed” so I guess they give us some jangly goodness full of their usual charm. I like Esiotrot unhinged and unrehearsed! You can download the album from this link. Here’s one of my favourite …

Norma Sass – they must have a four leaf clover hidden somewhere… Luck: Yes, Talent: Definitely!

Posted on by Knut in Nordic music | 1 Comment

Remember Enorma Sass from our compilation “A Good Crop”? They have now changed their name to NORMA SASS, and things have really started to roll for this band now. Seems to be a combination of pure talent and lots of luck (and of course everything started with the Eardrums compilation, I’m sure! ). This is what has happened so far: First, the Eardrums compilation, as you know,… Then: * They were chosen as “Ukas Urört” (“this week’s untouched”) on Norwegian …

Eardrums on Twitter and other web-services

Posted on by Knut in Other | Comments Off

A lot of people have already found us and joined us on Twitter, and I hope you will too. I use the Eardrums-twitter mostly as a little sideblog to Eardrums, and there will often be posted news, links and other stuff that I don’t find “big” enough to write a full story about on the main Eardrums-blog. In addition, most Eardrums-posts will be posted about on twitter too. Join us! You can also be our friend on Myspace or compare …

Posted on by Knut in Other | Comments Off

Super Furry Animals has announced that their new album (so far without a title, but with a tracklist) will be available for sale in a digital version on their own website on 16th March and the physical release will be on 13th April on Rough Trade. The US release will be on 21st April. On their myspace, they say: "Musically it’s based around riffs and grooves we’ve been playing around with over the last few years. We have enough now …

New song from Fanfarlo: “I’m a Pilot”, and I finally admit that I am a fan of something…

Posted on by Knut in Songs | 9 Comments

“Reservoir”, Fanfarlo’s upcoming debut, is an album I have great expectations for, and listening to the first song off the album, “I’m A Pilot” does not lower my expectations at all. It’s a wonderful track, beautifully arranged and with an interesting rhythm section that sounds like both drums, hands, feet and probably something else too making noise. The band has just shared this song, “I’m a pilot”, and I love it! Fanfarlo – I’m A Pilot Fanfarlo is one of …
