New EP from Snippet, “The T shirt ep”

Posted on by Knut in Recommended Releases, Reviews | 1 Comment

UK one man band Snippet (a.k.a. Johnno Casson) will release a new EP, “the Tshirt ep”, on 24th August. It has 5 tracks on it, including a new version of “lovely ugly people”, which he participated with on our own “Birdsongs, Beesongs” compilation earlier this year. The ep will be a limited edition handcrafted CD-only release with individually numbered packaging, and I’m told that there will be an extra surprise inside the cover. The opening track “I love your t-shirt” …

Dylan Mondegreen with new album and free song

Posted on by Knut in Nordic music, Songs | 1 Comment

Dylan Mondegreen is the alias of Norwegian singer/songwriter Børge Sildnes, and his debut from 2007  “While I walk you home” is still among my all time favourite albums from my own country (it’s on spotify and on wimp). His soft, melodic and breezy indiepop-songs easily found their way to my heart. Now his second album is finally finished. The album is called “The World Spins On”, and it will be released on August 31. A Japanese version of this album, …

Race Horses – "Cake"

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile, Recommended Releases | Comments Off

I’m quite in love with the debut-single “Cake” from the Welsh 4-piece Race Horses (- and look at that cover art! Amazing!). It’s released on Fantastic Plastic on the 27th of July (but at least here where I live, you can get it on iTunes already now). It’s a wonderful tune, and in the middle of all the obvious 60s influences from several bands beginning with B, I hear sounds that reminds me of Super Furry Animals and a rougher …

The Leisure Society signs with Full Time Hobby

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile, Recommended Releases | Comments Off

One of my absolute favourite albums of the year is “Sleeper” by The Leisure Society. This warm, melodic folky pop gem has received far too little attention. It’s a brilliant album from start to finish, and one of the few that I never seem to get tired of…. So, – my intention with this post was not to write a love letter to The Leisure Society, but to tell you that they have signed with one of my favourite labels …

Today this message came on The Ruling Class’ myspace-blog, and I thought several of you might be interested: “SO IF YOU WONDER, THERE’S PLENTY OF FLOWERS… FOR FREE! As we are getting closer to the release date of our single “Sleeping Beauty / Marian Shrine” on 20th July and our gig at the 100 Club on 21st July, we have some pleasant news… Our highly successful single from last year “Flowers / If You Wonder” can now be downloaded for …

Telekinesis

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile, Recommended Releases | Comments Off

One of the albums I have really enjoyed lately is an upcoming release on the Morr-label from their new artist Telekinesis. The album is called “Telekinesis!”, his debut, and the official release date is in August on Morr Music (it’s released on Merge in USA), but you can already now get it on iTunes. On record, Michael Benjamin Lerner is the sole member of Telekinesis, more or less. He writes, sings and plays the songs. His music is not the …

Summer Cats – Songs for Tuesdays

Posted on by Knut in Recommended Releases, Reviews | Comments Off

It’s Tuesday, so let’s play some “Songs for Tuesdays”! Melbourne five-piece Summer Cats have been an Eardrums favourite for a long time. This is pure, catchy indie pop, – jangly, sometimes noisy and always full of charm, humor and great melodies. I’ve enjoyed their mini-album “Scratching post”, their weepop!-micro cd “Passion Pop”, their Slumberland split-single in the series “Searching for the now” (together with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart), their cloudberry-7″ of “Lonely Planet” and their addition to …

Stars in Coma with new song, “87”, a free summer gift

Posted on by Knut in Nordic music, Songs | 1 Comment

Sweden’s Stars in Coma posted a little summer gift for his myspace followers today, the song “87”. Andre Brorsson says: “It’s a little bit more dreamy compared to "Sisters" and I think that’s the overall feeling I’m aiming for when I put the pieces together for my new album.” It’s a lovely song! Listen: Stars in Coma – 87 Andre Brorsson, who is the main member of the project, is currently producing the debut album of the Italian project Tiny …

Wool Strings with new, free instrumental EP: "our spring to their summer"

Posted on by Knut in Songs | Comments Off

I am still downloading this myself, but I am 100% sure that I can recommend it unheard, and especially since it is free, you have nothing to lose. Wool Strings has never disappointed me yet. This is a one-man project from Japan, and listeners of our Eardrums compilations will probably recognize him from “A Good Crop”. Both of his EPs and his album is high quality, so I recommend you to check them out too. You can buy them on …

Lulu and the Lampshades

Posted on by Knut in Bandprofile | Comments Off

These are the few facts I know about Lulu and the Lampshades. (… and since everything I know is taken from different unconfirmed sources on the internet, I’m not even sure if I know anything at all): 1. Well, I KNOW this for sure: They sound brilliant, got a wonderful name and play a kind of indie/folk/pop with a lot of soul and playfulness, and I want to hear more! I also know for sure that if you are in …
