Tweet   Photo by  Rock Portrait Photography  As usual on Fridays, I make a special Spotify-playlist of songs I loved from this week. This week, the list is huge, 40 songs, but I just couldn’t cut it more down than I already have. The playlist includes great new songs from bands like Tennis, St Etienne, Wild Nothing, Beach Fossils, Maribel, Sea Lions, Islands and lots more. The full tracklist can be found below. If you like this playlist, please subscribe to …

Jacob Borshard & Beach Boys = Love

Posted on by Knut in Projects | 3 Comments

Tweet Our ukulele-playing, cartoon-making, Batmobile-creating and incredibly creative hero Jacob Borshard has, as the pressrelease say, “just won the distinction of being the first person on earth to fully complete the Beach Boys’ 1967 Smile recordings”. Jacob has shown his love for Beach Boys in his earlier works as well, like his WeePop!-release “Coctail”, where he covered “Kokomo”. This time, he has (based on Brian Wilson’s solo version of the album, put together a stereo-version of the original Smile-recoirdings. He …

Tweet   Photo by  Morgana  We’re back on Fridays again, after a delayed “Loved Songs #24″. Since we used lots of goodies from this week on that one, the 25th edition will be a bit shorter than usual. Several really good ones in here too. I’m especially happy with the new album from Liechtenstein, the single from SoKo and the debut-album from Beth Jeans Houghton. Here it is, and please subscribe or share it around if you like it. It makes …

New single and EP from Red Shoe Diaries

Posted on by Knut in indiepop | Leave a comment

Tweet   Nottingham’s Red Shoe Diaries is one of the bands that make me really excited these days. It’s definitely indiepop, but I think this band takes the genre a bit further. I can’t exactly put my finger on what it is, but their music sounds “new” in some way. It’s sophisticated, with lovely, almost clean vocals, and great melodies. The band has two brilliant vocalists, and their twangy guitar reminds me of old Italian western-films. Don’t worry, this is …

Fenster – new release on Morr Music

Posted on by Knut in dreampop, electronica, folky | Leave a comment

Tweet As some of you may know, I am a huge fan of the German label Morr Music. I trust them so much that I KNOW that I will love their upcoming releases. I knew, just by reading Morr’s description of their new signing FENSTER, that this was something I should look forward to. Quote: “FENSTER makes de-constructed pop music. Their lyrics are often carefully constructed dream narratives, finding inspiration in the world of ghosts, graveyards. trains, religious imagery, and …

New album from Burning Hearts, finally!

Posted on by Knut in indiepop | Leave a comment

Tweet Finland’s Burning Hearts released one of my favourite albums a few years ago on one of my favourite labels, Shelflife. “Aboa Sleeping” was filled with gorgeous indiepop-songs, filtered through a thin layer of melancholy, – the same kind of melancholy you can find in some of the songs from Broadcast or Stereolab. That kind of duality between happy and melancholic  is probably why I have always found Burning Hearts’s sound more interesting and durable than all those super-happy and …
