BMX Bandits live radio session tomorrow

November 26th, 2007 by Knut

BMX

I just found this message from BMX Bandits on myspace:

" BMX Bandits are doing a live radio session on Marc Riley’s Brain Surgery radio show on BBC6 Music on Tuesday 27th November. The show starts at 7pm and you can hear it online via here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/brain_surgery/"

The bandits’ new album "Bee Stings" is really good, - a bit different than their previous releases, but I’m liking it a lot. Perfect Pop!

Here’s a free track from their myspace, - an unreleased live version of "The Audition" from 1996:

Syme is conquering the music scene in USA!

October 1st, 2007 by Lotte

Syme

One of Eardrums’ favourites, Syme, indiepop-/elektroband from beautiful Bergen in Norway, has become the big buzz in USA these days! These guys are influenced by The Postal Service, Radiohead, Jaga Jazzist, Mew and Sigur Ros, all of my favourites!
Today I present to you the joyous news that Syme is conquering the stages of USA! Presently the band is gearing up for its first run at the states, which includes a stop for the festivities at Pop Montreal in Canada, and a CMJ day show with the suave gents of Tiger City and the windy indie of Toronto’s Uncut.

Tour dates:
10/2 Brooklyn, NY - Trash Bar
10/3 New York, NY - Lit
10/4 Boston, MA - Hennessy’s
10/5 Montreal - Le Academy (Pop Montreal)
10/7 Pittsburgh, PA - Garfield Artworks
10/8 Cleveland, OH - Wilbert’s
10/9 Toronto, ON - The Horseshoe Tavern
10/10 New Haven, CT - Café Nine
10/11 Boston, MA- TT and the Bears
10/14 Philadelphia, PA - The Khyber
10/15 Washington DC - DC9
10/16 New York, NY - Ace of Clubs (CMJ)
10/18 New York, NY - The Delancey Lounge (CMJ day show)
w/ Tiger City, Uncut, Middle Distance Runner, and Morning State

Some of the reviews the band has received previously:
"Beautiful, beautiful harmonies and driving grooves that capture and hypnotize you. Syme can quickly become a cult band of international size. This is balsam for stressed souls." - Hitfactory

"Syme’s music is a breath of fresh air in a world where almost all music is easily jammed into fixed genres. I live for this kind of music, and this album easily tops my list." A + - Undressmerobot.com

Listen to Syme!

Sufjan Stevens on the Take Away-show, but his friends were better… This is mostly about the friends…

May 31st, 2007 by Knut

Sufjan Stevens recently did a performance on the 50th Take Away-show. The performance was filmed at the MusicNow-festival in Cincinnati, and Sufjan’s performance is only a part of the recording. Other artists are Havlovi, David Cossin, Pedro Soler, Clogs & Shara “My Brightest Diamond” Worden, Osso Quartet and Amiina, but of course Sufjan was listed as the “headliner”.
For me, Sufjan’s performance was good, but it was the least interesting on this show. Just listen to the parts where especially the icelandic string quartet Amiina (also known as Sigur Rós’ string players), Osso Quartet (they are the string quartet who performs with Sufjan Stevens and My Brightest Diamond) and Clogs/Shara Worden performs. Amazing!
Amiina rules my world right now. This is heavenly music!

Watch the whole take away-show here.

And listen to some non-sufjan songs here:

Amiina - Ugla (from the fantastic “Seoul-ep”, out now on emusic, iTunes and other places)
My Brightest Diamond - disappear (string quartet version)( from the disappear e.p., iTunes only)
Clogs - Pencil Stick (from the bandsite)
David Cossin - A.C.T. Radio (he plays ‘the amplified cardboard tube’, a self made instrument. Radio recording, from Cossin’s website.)

…and here’s a live video of Amiina, performing their new single Seoul in Philadelphia:
