Fenster – new release on Morr Music

As some of you may know, I am a huge fan of the German label Morr Music. I trust them so much that I KNOW that I will love their upcoming releases. I knew, just by reading Morr’s description of their new signing FENSTER, that this was something I should look forward to.

Quote:
“FENSTER makes de-constructed pop music. Their lyrics are often carefully constructed dream narratives, finding inspiration in the world of ghosts, graveyards. trains, religious imagery, and broken machinery. In their music, they build songs around errors, blending melodic chords with broken beats or minimal percussion. Their instruments range from banjo to synth to inanimate objects, using slamming doors and city soundscapes.”
Unquote.

I was right. Fenster was worth looking forward to. Their music is magical and really interesting. Fenster’s album “Bones” will be released on Morr in March, but you can already get their 7″ single via Bandcamp. http://fenster.bandcamp.com/

The Ice Choir – new project from TPOBPAH’s Kurt Feldman

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart/The Depreciation Guild’s Kurt Feldman has started a new side-project, The Ice Choir, together with Raphael Radna (also from The Depreciation Guild), Patrick South and Avery Brooks. The new band has a clear 80s synth-pop sound, not too far from artists like Scritti Politti, and I must say that Feldman and Green Gartside has some vocal similarities…

The pop-melodies on these songs are strong, and Kurt Feldman’s vocals are – as always – a pleasure to listen to.

The band will release a 2 track single on November 15, as a co-release between Shelflife and YesboyIcecream records.

New track from Mint Julep / news from the Hollie and Keith Kenniff

Mint Julep, the husband-wife duo Keith and Hollie Kenniff, has made the first song from their upcoming album “Save Your Season” available for free download. “Aviary” is a lovely, upbeat pop-track, mainly based on electronics and with Hollie Kenniff’s dreamy vocals on top. “Reminds me of Cocteau Twins…” says one of the people who have commented the track on Soundcloud, and I agree. The two bands definitely work in the same musical neighbourhood.

The Kenniffs are also responsible for several other interesting projects, – all favourites of mine, in fact.

Together, they recently released a wonderful childrens’ album as Meadows, and they will also be releasing a more ambient album together as Hollie & Keith Kenniff“A Deep and Dreamless Sleep”, which will be released on Unseen in the early Autumn this year.

Keith Kenniff has released some of my absolute favourite albums as Helios and Goldmund, where the first is ambient electronica and the second could probably be called neo-classical piano-based music. The new Goldmund album, “All Will Prosper”, will be released on Western Vinyl in November. The album is a collection of songs from and inspired by the American Civil War.

Here is the new Mint Julep track + a few tasters from the couple’s other projects. All of their releases can be bought both in physical and digital versions from their Unseen-website:

Black Coffee & Stephee Pie

HI54LOFI RECORDS has a very interesting collaborative release out today from a project called Black Coffee & Stephee Pie. It’s a collaboration between Albert from the French project Black Coffee & Cherry Pie and Steph from California-based Steffaloo and the result is a free EP with 3 lovely, dreamy tracks.

Albert and Steph have never met, and works entirely through the internet. It’s amazing that two people, far away from each other, can create something so full of emotion and beauty. I must also say, that both of their original projects are well worth checking out as well.

You can/should listen to and download the EP from the label’s website or from Bandcamp:

The Nocturnes

The Nocturnes
is a band led by Red Sparowes guitarist Emma Ruth Rundle, and they have made a beautiful video and single called “The Road”, as a preview of their forthcoming second album, Aokigahara. The new album is said to blend hints of folk, shoegaze, chamber pop, goth and post-rock, which sounds pretty interesting to me. You can download the single for free at Bandcamp, including two beautiful remixes of the track.
The album is set for release on August 30, but if you donate to their Kickstarter campaign, you will get the download-version almost at once.
