These are some of my absolute favourite blogs from my blogroll (see the left sidebar). The list is randomized from a larger list of my favourites, and it will change at every visit:
New Zealand’s Motocade have been Eardrums-favourites since we first wrote about them a year ago, and now they’ve sent us a new song and some good news! The Auckland 4-piece is currently busy working in the studio with their first full length album, which they hope will be ready for release mid year. The first single from the new album is called “Soap Opera”, an upbeat rocker with edgy guitars and a really catchy chorus.
Here’s the new video for the song, and an mp3 follows after the video. Enjoy!
I am quite excited about a couple of new songs, both of them released/to be released on Domino Records. I haven’t got any song-downloads for you on any of these, but I’ve got videos! The new single from Animal Collective is amazingly wonderful in all its weird bouncyness. I love this band more and more for every release. Great stuff! I had to watch the video several times to see if there was something wrong with my computer here or if this was what it was supposed to look like. Interesting…
Animal Collective - Water curses (out on May 5 in UK and May 6 in US)
The second one is from The Last Shadow Puppets, “The age of understatement”. This is a sideproject from Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys) and Miles Kane (The Rascals), and here’s a studio live performance of the song:
The new single from My Sad Captains should have been released early in February, but it’s been delayed and the new release date is set to March 3rd on White Heat Records . Their debut single, "bad decisions", had two brilliant songs on it, and the new one seems to be just as good or maybe better. The band has made a video for both songs on this double a-sided single, and I enjoyed both a lot.
Here’s "All Hat And No Plans":
And here’s the second part of the double a-side: "Great Expectations". The video is shot in Iceland.
Cocoanut Groove is Olov Antonsson - a young man from Umea in Sweden. His music has a nice 60s feeling to it. The sound is more inspired by Brian Wilson in the sandbox in his Pet Sound-days than The Rolling Stones, if you know what I mean.
Olov plays most of the instruments himself on "The End of the Summer on Bookbinder Road": bass, piano, harpsichord, vocals, organ, guitars, percussion, trumpet, harmonica etc. But if you’re listen carefully you will hear Frida Danielsson’s beautiful trumpet. Cocoanut Groove is currently recording an album, so we will probably hear more from this artist in the months to come, hopefully.
The Fashion’s new single "Like Knives" is great alternative rocker, taylor-made for dancefloors and the rock-clubs. My radio has been playing this song for a while, and I have been singing the words "You’re so outta’ control - you gotta’ be more in control" the whole week now. So I had to find out more about the source of this song!
The Fashion is four guys from Denmark and "Like Knives" is taken from their second album released last year. The band will be busy this winter/spring touring Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and USA. Listen to "Like Knives" and other songs at the bands Myspace. The video for this song is directed by the bands frontman Jakob Pritnzlau.
