Acid Ghost has just released a new album, “I Want to Hide My Face & Die.”, and I really, really like what I hear.
The album can be put into so many different genres, – and it somehow plays like a movie or a book or a fictional story, with nice little soundbits of conversations, monologues, field recordings and diary entries inside and inbetween the songs. “A story about some guy falling in love with a girl”, it says on his Bandcamp page, so I guess the story-thing is intentional.
If I have to pick genres, dream pop, indiepop and shoegaze are probably closest to describe this. It sounds really good, and that is what is important, isn’t it?
Acid Ghost is a project from San Francisco, with Ace Barcelon as the only member, and he gets some help from his friend Mike Mendoza on drums. He has released a lot of music on his Bandcamp, – several this year in fact, – and you can get all of them for a total of just 5 dollars now, including the latest one. You should buy it all. Very nice music on all of them.
(BTW, One of the tags he has picked for his music on Bandcamp is “mac demarco is overhyped”, and I kind of agree with that.)
